Negotiation can be defined as the relationship established by two or more people in relation to a particular issue with a view to bringing positions closer and being able to reach an agreement that is beneficial to all of them.

The negotiation begins when there are differences in the positions held by the parties. If these positions were coincidental it would not be necessary to negotiate.

The negotiation seeks to eliminate these differences, usually gradually approaching the positions until reaching a point acceptable to all.
